National Sports College

The National Sports College was established in 1984.  As one of the ancillary departments of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, it is charged with the task of training and re-training the technical human resource for the development and promotion of sports in Ghana.

The college is sited at the grounds adjacent to the North Campus of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).  It runs a Residential Soccer Academy of forty-seven (47) students and a non Residential Tennis Academy for thirty (30) students.

Vision

The vision is to upgrade the college to a centre of Sports Excellence by providing modern standard infrastructure and facilities for the training of athletes, coaches, administrators, officials and to provide excellent hospitality services for customers in the sports and tourism industry for the development and promotion of sports and tourism in Ghana by 2015.

Values

We are guided by the following values:

  • Provide the highest quality of training facilities and services to clients.
  • Promote, honesty, patriotism, dedication and fair play in our training programmes.

Objectives

The College therefore operates with the understated objectives:

  • To train and re-train sports administrators, coaches, officials, journalists, marketers etc.
  • Provide camping facilities to national and local teams preparing for national and international assignments.
  • Organize seminars, conferences and workshops on sports related and topical issues.
  • Collaborate with the various local and international bodies e.g. ITF, IOC, GOC, GFA, NSC, NGOs etc to run courses, workshops etc. for technical resource persons.
  • Serve as a venue for departments and agencies under the Ministry for organizing seminars, conferences and workshops on issues related to such departments and agencies at reduced cost.
  • Train groups of talented young boys and girls in various sporting disciplines; and
  • Undertake any other duty that may be assigned to it by the Ministry.

In summary, the college therefore seeks to achieve the following:

  • Promote Youth Empowerment for sustained growth through sports (i.e. Poverty alleviation).
  • Strengthen existing Management systems for optimum Youth and Sports Development (i.e. Human Resource Development.
  • Provide Sports and Recreational Facilities for good health (i.e. Infrastructural Development).

The College is prepared to work with any Federation, Association, Institution, Club, N.G.O. Group or Individual with good intentions to achiever its objectives.
