Welcome to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ghana
"We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future." He, therefore, charged participants at a two-day national forum on the duration of SHS to pay particular attention to issues of quality basic education, quality teacher training, teacher motivation and text books at the basic level. 13-year old Kavya Shivashankar, sponsored by ‘The Olathe News’ and from the California Trail Junior High School emerged the 82nd Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion, spelling the championship word ‘laodicean’ which means “lukewarm or indifferent in religion or politics.” The two-week competition is expected to bring crack hockey nations from across the continent including South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria into the country. Others are Kenya, Zimbabwe and Namibia whom reports suggest were yet to confirm their participation. Mr Hamilton who arrived in Ghana to commence preparations for the next edition, said preparations are in place for another memorable event, which has received the endorsement of the Association of National Olympic Committee (ANOCA) and the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF). Government has set up a five-member committee to review the Draft Youth Bill to make it satisfy the current needs of the youth, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, Minister for Youth and Sports, said on Thursday. He said the review was also to make for the creation of a Commission on Youth to give the National Youth Council the autonomy to perform its functions effectively. The strengthening of family ties, and the inculcation of virtuous deeds in the youth in the family set up, have therefore been advocated, to ensure that society was not plunged further into moral anarchy. The purpose of the NUGS National Awards is to acknowledge, encourage, reward and most importantly promote positive achievement of students and the youth in general. Former executive of the union, who have and still are contributing to national development in tremendous ways, will be recognised.

I was one of the millions of Ghanaians who could not help but be grateful to God for the victory to our democracy upon the declaration of Prof. Evans Atta-Mills as president! I was happy for two things; that Ghanaians exhibited the multi-party democratic maturity that has always eluded most states that sandwich us in sub-Sahara Africa and the clear statement by all parties in the race that the Professor well-deserved the victory.
